I received a bill for Laboratories, Pathology, Anesthesia, Hospitals and Other Healthcare Providers:

During treatment you may have a specimen that is sent to an outside laboratory or hospital. If you receive care at a hospital you may receive separate bills from other healthcare providers involved in your care. Questions related to these bills cannot be answered by this office and will need to be directed to the billing entity as they are not issued by us. If you are scheduled for surgery and your surgery gets canceled for any reason after you have already had preoperative work done please note that you may be billed for these services and any dispute of the bill should be addressed to the billing entity. We recommend that all patients request the lab or imaging facility run their benefits prior to completing any study or lab. We are not responsible for any billing errors or problems in regards to labs and/or imaging after they are already completed as we do not bill for these services. If you have a question about the codes used for your labs or imaging please contact our office prior to receiving these services. If you have a question about which labs are used to run specimens that are collected in the office please ask our staff for that information during your visit so that you can ensure that your specimen is routed if possible to your appropriate in-network lab. We cannot be responsible for re-routing specimens collected at the office if we are not informed directly at the time of service by you that the office’s lab is not in your network at the time of the visit. Lab specimens may be sent out as soon as the same day for collection so if you are not sure about your coverage at the time of service please request that the sample be held so that you may have time to review your orders on your portal and contact your insurance to obtain your benefits. We cannot hold specimens on this basis any longer than 48 hours based on stability of specimens and if not notified by you within that time period then the specimen will automatically be released to the lab and you will be responsible for payment as determined by your insurance. Our staff members are more than willing to inform you of what lab your specimen is sent to during your visit.
